The social movements Frente Brasil Popular and Frente Povo sem Medo created this petition , seeking in the idea of taxing fortunes a way to increase resources for health. The idea is to pressure Congress to approve the regulation of the tax on large fortunes, provided for in the Federal Constitution.
The authors point out that the coronavirus pandemic has deepened the political, economic and social crisis in the country and say that the gravity of the moment requires every effort to save lives at risk, whether due to illness or poverty.
Among the data presented by the fronts, there is information that out of every thousand taxpayers, only 8 have a monthly income above 80 minimum wages. And, in view of this, they point out that the implementation of a fair and solidary tax burden would allow an increase in the investment capacity in the Public Health System (SUS) and expansion of social protection actions.
The theme is present in more than 10 bills pending in Congress and they already have more than 300,000 signatures in support of these matters, almost twice as many as the more than 160,000 signatures of the online petition.
