The pandemic created the need to adapt our forms of communication and mobilization. It is a singular crisis in comparison with previous periods, as it had in contrast the infinite possibilities that the virtual world offers. One of the main forms of communication, mobilization and debate used by civil society in this context were the so-called “Lives”, which became popular from April 2020. This page presents some examples of the more than one hundred lives mapped by Resocie. We selected only those that had the participation of civil society actors to discuss some aspect of the pandemic.

The virtual act “Defending the Amazon is defending life” was promoted by an articulation of organizations that work in the nine states of the Amazon region: Movement of People Affected by Dams (MAB), Articulation of Indigenous Peoples of Brazil (APIB), Via Campesina, Ninja Media, Terra de Direitos, National Council of Christian Churches in Brazil, Pan-Amazonian Ecclesial Network, International Rivers and Friends of the Earth. The act brought together community leaders in testimonies and cultural actions to celebrate September 5: Amazon Day. Access here.

On Thursday, the 14/04/2020th, the 8th virtual meeting of the NEB, Core of Bureaucracy Studies, took place. At the eighth meeting, the focus of the debate was the impact of the pandemic on Brazilian favelas and peripheries, as well as what are the challenges and possibilities of facing the crisis in these territories. Interview with Preto Zezé, granted on April 18, 2020 to the website Unidade na Diversidade, about the current situation in the communities, the actions taken so far and what still needs to be done. In 2020, the main trade union centrals came together to celebrate Labor Day and Worker's Day. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, for the first time, the fraternization was virtual. Live held on May 07, 2020 at the event "Cycle of Lectures" produced by the group Demodê - IPOL / UNB. The main theme of the event this year was “Actions and Challenges in Coping with COVID-19 in Brazil”. The live debated the urban peripheries in the context of facing COVID-19, and was attended by 3 guests: Maria das Graças (UMM / SP), Cristiane Benedetto (IBDU) and Thiago Trindade (IPOL / UnB). Online debate table held during the “PRE ENAPEGS 2020” event, held on May 25, 2020 on the following topic: Collective action and new social mobilizations against inequalities. Webinar “Black and indigenous lives and Covid-19”, held on June 18, 2020 and organized by Ciência na Rua in partnership with Rede CoVida and Agência Bori. Communication in times of isolation was a chat about technology as a tool to communicate and the fight against fake news, held on 07/16/2020. In July 2020, the City of São Paulo announced that street vendors could return to work. To discuss the challenges of the street vendor population, the Gaspar Garcia Human Rights Center promoted a live, on July 22, 2020, with the theme “Against the pandemic: how the fight of street vendors is going in the face of the Covid-19 crisis” ?” The participants were: Margarida Bernardina dos Santos Ramos, street vendor in the Brás region, member of the Forum of Street Vendors and of UNICAB – National Union of Workers Street vendors, street vendors and market vendors in Brazil; Maira Villas-BôasVannuchi, master in urban and regional planning from the Institute of Urban and Regional Planning - IPPUR of UFRJ and organizer of StreetNet International for the Americas and Ana Lídia Aguiar: sociologist, professor at the State Education Network in the South Zone and doctoral student in Sociology at the University of São Paulo. On the 05/08/2020th, social movements from Minas Gerais held a Live from the Zero Eviction Campaign. The broadcast was through the Popular Brigades Facebook page. The event's presentation text states that: “In the midst of the biggest public health crisis of the last hundred years, millions of families across Brazil can be forcibly taken from their homes and placed on the street. The Movement for the Popular Evangelical Banquet held on August 25, 2020 a live on its Facebook channel with several representatives of evangelical social movements. The objective is to make a counterpoint with the fundamentalist logic of other sectors and talk about the political participation of evangelicals. In this edition of the webinar series Population and Development in Debate, held on 08/26/2020, the impacts and possible solutions of the crisis caused by the pandemic were discussed from different perspectives, based on experiences in peripheral regions in Brazil. To talk about what solidary alliances were during the pandemic, what their limits and potential were, the Transe Hub channel held a live, on 08/27/2020, with the participation of Victor Hugo Viegas, member of Transe, and Zé Antônio – activist who did digital ethnography in dozens of facebook and whatsapp groups for mutual aid during the most intense period of mobilization in search of help. This live broadcast the debate table on “Problems of access to justice for indigenous peoples in the field of COVID-19”, which was part of the webinar “Exchange of experiences for the protection of indigenous defenders against COVID-19”, organized by Coordinadora de las Organizaciones Indígenas de la Cuenca Amazónica (COICA).
