Em parceria com o grupo de pesquisa NEPAC (Núcleo de Pesquisa em Participação, Movimentos Sociais e Ação Coletiva), da Unicamp, foram coletados manifestos públicos escritos por distintos setores da sociedade civil no contexto da pandemia de Covid-19. Manifestos públicos são documentos construídos coletivamente e assinados, que expressam e dão publicidade ao posicionamento oficial de um conjunto de sujeitos face a determinado tema ou questão. Dessa forma, foram coletados notas, informes, cartas de repúdio, campanhas e demais documentos, que expressavam o desacordo com os rumos das políticas de enfrentamento da pandemia e das suas consequências sociais e econômicas e, em muitos casos, também sugeriam alternativas. Os critérios utilizados na seleção dos documentos foram: 1. Documentos “nacionais” ou “regionais” (foram descartados textos produzidos nos âmbitos estadual, municipal ou por comunidades/bairros, bem como os textos elaborados por uma única instituição regional ou municipal); 2. Documentos que são de proposição ou repúdio voltados a órgãos de Estado ou à sociedade em geral. 3. Não foram incluídos posts nas mídias sociais de um único indivíduo, mas sim documentos assinados por coletivos e/ou indivíduos organizados coletivamente; 4. A coleta não se restringiu apenas a movimentos sociais mais conhecidos, foram incluídas iniciativas inclusive fora do campo dos movimentos sociais para perceber proximidades e diferenças; 5. Não foram incluídas campanhas exclusivamente de solidariedade, nem cartilhas orientadoras. 6. Foram descartadas notas de médicos ou especialistas. “We can’t afford to buy hand sanitizer and food while we’re out and about during this coronavirus crisis. We need the app companies to take a stand and take measures to better protect us. We urgently need hand sanitizer and food for all delivery drivers. We can’t work hungry! Civil society organizations have launched the campaign “Safe Elections – Democracy is an essential activity”. The goal is to request that the voting to elect mayors and council members take place this year, in order to avoid extending current mandates. The entities involved believe that the possibility of postponing the election to next year could set “absolutely undesirable precedents for the functioning of our democratic system”. "In order to guarantee the Attorney General's Office the effective independence indispensable to the exercise of the constitutional mission of the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office, it is necessary to have a broad, public and open debate on the institutionalization, through inclusion in the constitutional text, of the rule that the Attorney General of the Republic be chosen by the President of the Republic based on a shortlist of three candidates chosen by the members of the institution, as is the case with the Attorney General of Justice in the Federal District and in the 26 (twenty-six) states of the Federation." The College of Presidents of Courts of Justice of Brazil (Codepre) issued an official letter in support of the Supreme Federal Court. The document emphasizes that "(the STF), in its 129 years of history, has provided immeasurable services to Brazilian society, establishing itself as an indispensable institution for guaranteeing the rights of citizens, the Democratic Rule of Law, and the consolidation of democracy." Due to a historical debt regarding the incorporation of human rights into the lives of citizens and the risks of setbacks in achievements celebrated in the 1988 Constitution, a group of Brazilians decided to establish the Dom Paulo Evaristo Arns Commission for the Defense of Human Rights.
These are 20 personalities from the political world, including jurists, academics, intellectuals, journalists, and social activists from different generations, whose common denominator has been the constant defense of human rights. The group operates on a voluntary, non-partisan basis, alongside thousands of human rights defenders across the country. Check it out here.
Composed of athletes, former athletes, sports journalists, commentators, and referees, the group "Sports for Democracy" has launched a manifesto in defense of human rights, freedom of the press, and diversity. According to the organizers, the manifesto aims to show a stance regarding the Covid-19 pandemic, the disrespect for the Constitution, and the trivialization of Black lives. Access it here.
